What do Jesus Christ and Scientist have in common?

To the question “what do Jesus Christ and Scientist have in common?!” you are probably thinking…

Both Jesus Christ and scientist come from the planet earth, which is the third planet from the sun, within the milky way galaxy of the local group, which is part of the Virgo Supercluster in the observable universe. That would certainly be my first reaction to this question but meow after reading “Road to Hell: Good Intentions in the Face of Unconscious Tendencies to Misuse Power” by John A. Bargh and Jeannette Alvarez I have a much more exciting answer!

So what is it? What, do, Jesus Christ and Scientist have in common? Well, it’s that they can both agree that power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely (famous quote by Lord Acton). According to the research conducted by Bargh and Alvarez the more wealth and power an individual has the less likely he/she is to be empathetic towards others. Now let’s take a look at the following quote from their essay “Road to Hell”

Within organizations in which some people are given official power over the important outcomes of others who have no reciprocal control of their own (social power) abuse of this power occurs, and at all levels of the power hierarchy.

Although this is now discussed in psychology and it’s sister discipline sociology, we must give some love to my man JC who according to Matt, centuries before scientist came into the scene, said the following…

For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:24
